The Open Content Network is a collaborative effort to help deliver large, freely-downloadable content using peer-to-peer technology. The network is essentially a huge "virtual web server" that links together thousands of computers for the purpose of helping out over-burdoned web sites. Using various web browser plug-ins, users can download open source and public domain software, movies, and music at incredibly fast speeds from this global, distributed network. Some users have reported downloads in excess of 1 MB/s! Using a new Peer-to-Peer technology, called the "Content-Addressable Web", indviduals will be able to help distribute free content by donating their spare bandwidth and disk space to the network. ---------------------------------------- OCN SITES ---------------------------------------- [1] Etree Archives Join OCN The Etree archives of high-quality, live concert recordings is now being distributed with the aid of the Open Content Network. The archives can be found at http://www.archive.org/audio/etree.php 2,156 shows from 128 artists is currently available via the Etree archives with many of the tracks being over 100 MB in size. By joining the OCN, the Etree users can now share their bandwidth with each other and recieve faster downloads.
